Forged / Hardened or Stainless?
Points to Bear in Mind.
Materials Forged Steel is the strongest way to make the head of
a fork or spade.
The head and socket are forged from one piece of steel making it very tough. Hardened Steel is heat treated to give it strength and durability.
The head will be welded to the socket.
Both of these types of steel are coated with an epoxy material to make them resistant
to scratches, rust and alklines in the soil.
The coating also helps prevent soil adhesion and keep the head clean.
Stainless Steel has excellent resistance to rust and alkaline
corrosion and has minimal soil adhesion.
Easy to keep clean and offers less resistance when digging.
Stainless steel is a lighter softer material than hardened steel.
For a light fork or spade that cleans easily and will not rust - Stainless
For a tough workhorse spade or fork that will need a bit of care and attention
- Forged or Hardened.
Please bear in mind the lifetime of a spade or fork
is directly related to how you use it.
